Meet Dr. Jake Monokian

Dr. Jake

I’m Dr. Jake Monokian. I was born in New Jersey and moved to St.Croix when I was in middle school. I attended Good Hope School until I graduated. I went on to attend Marymount University in Arlington, Va where I received my Bachelor of Science. From there I went on to receive both my Bachelor of Science in Life Science and my Doctorate of Chiropractic degrees from Logan University in St. Louis, Missouri. My goal, which turned into my drive, to finish school was my passion for wanting to return home to St. Croix. During my middle school and high school years I was heavily involved in sports and community activities. I learned so much about the value of having a strong community. St. Croix gave me so much that I wanted to someday be able to give back to the island. I would come home to visit every break in school when I was stateside and would always get anxious when sitting on the plane having to leave island to return to school. That’s how I knew. I felt anxious because I was leaving my home, the place that’s cared for me as I have cared for it all those years. That inspired me to overcome any obstacle I faced. I found my love for Chiropractic after working for my father, a Chiropractor, over summers when I was home from undergrad. I would see patients come in with pain and walk out feeling great. That was powerful to me. The root word “Chiro” means hand. The ability to help people reduce or eliminate pain with only the use of hands meant a lot to me. The human body is a beautiful self functioning, self regulating, and of complex design. Unfortunately, as humans, as we evolved we have lost focus in what’s important to keeping this design operating at its full potential. My goal through my care is to not only help alleviate pain, but to teach my patients the importance of diet, exercise, and creating more favorable environments for their bodies to strive. While attending Chiropractic school I studied Applied Kinesiology. Applied Kinisiology is a technique that utilizes muscle function to help diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions. Applied Kinesiology is a great synergist to Chiropractic treatment. The spinal cord controls the communication from the brain the rest of the body and is protected by the spinal column. Nerves branch off the spinal cord and control the muscles. Muscles move bones. A problem can persist at any level of this communication. Through Applied Kinesiology I am able to look at the whole picture and modify my treatment to the most efficient level of care. I love what I do, and love where I have the privilege of doing it!
